Punch art! Chalking! Two great crafts to excite the imagination of any scrapbooker! In Punch-a-Bunch, you'll learn how to create punch art animals and other cute characters. You will also learn to decorate with chalk to make your designs pop. Author Lin Metcalf provides great tips for working with chalk on your scrapbook projects. In her "Chalk Talk" section, she gives advice on how to make your designs look like they have three dimensions with a bit of chalking. The technique of chalking is easy for beginners. If you make mistakes, you can use erasers to take away stray chalk marks and glue smudges. You can use different types of paper in your chalking projects with different effects. Porous papers such as basic cardstock will absorb the chalk and produce a vivid color. Other papers will produce different effects. Metcalf advises scrapbookers to avoid working with chalk on semi-gloss papers, which are unsuitable for chalking because the chalk will not stick to the paper. She instead recommends trying vellum, as its texture is perfect for any chalking project. It is also a good idea to do all chalking before gluing your project together, because glue will attract the chalk dust.
