About the Author:
Judy Gale Roberts was born in Houston, Texas. She attended Houston's Museum of Fine Arts School but eventually elected to study art "hands-on" with her artist/sculptor father, Pat Dudley Roberts. Throughout the 70's they created intarsia murals, etched glass and sculptures in metals for architects. Early on, Judy recognized that she enjoyed bringing wood to life by shaping it, working with grains and colors.
Judy partnered with Jerry Booher and began creating one of a kind intarsia pieces for private collectors in the early 80's. His ability to saw the individual parts so accurately took intarsia to the next level. Together they co-authored many books. In 1988 the first intarsia patterns were made available for everyone to enjoy. Judy's attention to the composition, the sculptural aspect, and small details add a special quality to her intarsia patterns.
In 1997, Judy Gale Roberts was inducted into the Better Homes and Gardens' Wood magazine's Woodworking Hall of Fame for design, craftsmanship and education in Intarsia. She is credited with the resurgence of intarsia through her books, classes, design studio and newsletters.
