This Little Book offers Big Benefits 

East Petersburg , PA. Chris Lubkemann of Lancaster , Pennsylvania , offers a hands-on approach to unwind after a stressful day. In a recently released title, The Little Book of Whittling, Chris shows and tells how to achieve the benefit of relaxation with a pocketknife and a twig or branch in hand.

Chris writes, “For many people, whittling conjures up a colorful image of an old codger with longish hair, wearing bib overalls…sitting in an old bentwood rocker on the front porch of a very weathered cabin located somewhere up in the hills.” But people of all ages, in all regions, lifestyles and experience are taking up whittling as a simple relaxation activity.

The Little Book of Whittling tells how to get started whittling and offers 18 projects, illustrated with more than 380 photos that include utensils – spreaders, knives, letter openers and pickle forks while other projects lean toward the whimsical – a jumping fish that appears to leave a splash of water behind and stick figures that balance on a tightrope!

Chris Lubkemann has over 50 years of experience in whittling – beginning as a child growing up in the forests of Brazil and Peru . Today he operates a whittling shop at the Amish Farm and House on Rt 30 east of Lancaster , and writes a regular column for Chip Chats Magazine. In 1972, his first whittling instructions were printed in English and Portuguese. Other editions followed and most recently, Fox Chapel published Whittling Twigs and Branches and The Little Book of Whittling.
