Art of Chainsaw Carving - Fox Chapel Publishing
East Petersburg, PA. The chips will fly when chainsaw artist Jessie Groeschen begins to carve, this week at the Westport International Chainsaw Carving Competition (Westport, WA). Despite the roar of the chainsaw, Jessie will remain focused on working a log into a graceful art form. She knows from experience that the unexpected is always present in chainsaw carving!
Jessie is one of a few women chainsaw artists who will participate in the Westport competition, the world’s largest event of its kind. She calls it her “duty” to take a log, an old stump or a root end and breathe new life into it- to recycle it into something new. She will work around knots and holes in the wood until she’s created the amazing art for which is she world-renowned.
Jessie Groeschen is the author of a soon-to-be released book, Art of Chainsaw Carving. This book includes a how-to section for anyone who wants to try their hand at chainsaw carving a chair. In mid-September she will compete in the Chainsaw Carving Event in Carrbridge, Scotland and then on to the English Open Chainsaw Championships in Norfolk, England.
