Canes and pipes, especially those made from found materials or unsophisticated craftsmen, have long been of special interest to carvers and collectors. This guide collects over 200 pen and ink sketches of canes and pipes executed by an extraordinary folk artist over a period of 35 years. The sketches, impressive in their own right, depict a strange and wonderful group of objects, many with fanciful carvings of mythical or imagined people and animals.

Harry Ameredes was a steelworker by trade and a prolific folk artist during his down time. He lives in Weirton, West Virginia.
