At the beginning of the 1950s, Professor Rudolf Geisler-Moroder began to teach woodcarving to a group of young students in Elbigenalp, Austria. This was the seed of t he school that today is called the Geisler-Moroder Austrian Woodcarving School. The professor's son, Martin Geisler-Moroder, established the present school in 1984.

The carver instructor for this book is Horst Pali. He takes one through the step-by-step instructions of how to use clay and transpose the clay into a wood sculpture. Tools and material are discussed as well as studies of human heads from young to old and expressions.
