Judy Gale Roberts, a sculptress by training, is responsible for the resurgence of interest in Intarsia through her books, articles, classes, newsletter and design studio. Roberts Studio, run with the help of her partner Jerry Booher, is located in Sevierville Tennesee near Dollywood.

Judy Gale Roberts and Jerry Booher are artists and woodworking instructors who specialize in intarsia. They are the authors of Easy to Make Inlay Wood Projects Intarsia, Intarsia: Artistry in Wood, Intarsia Workbook, and Small Intarsia. Judy Gayle Roberts is a member of the Better Homes and Gardens' Wood magazine's Woodworking Hall of Fame. She is credited with the resurgence of intarsia through her books, classes, design studio, and newsletters. They both live in Seymour, Tennessee.

Judy Gale Roberts was born in Houston, Texas. She attended Houston's Museum of Fine Arts School but eventually elected to study art "hands-on" with her artist/sculptor father, Pat Dudley Roberts. Throughout the 70's they created intarsia murals, etched glass and sculptures in metals for architects. Early on, Judy recognized that she enjoyed bringing wood to life by shaping it, working with grains and colors
