Make silhouettes, clocks and other decorative pieces. Or, add some imagination for more creative items. Use the star fish or shell designs as place cards at your next dinner gathering. Add an inlayed sea horse to the lid of a jewelry box for an added touch. Create a seasonal welcome sign and decorate it with painted lobsters.

William Hofferth is a woodworker who was named one of the top 200 craftsmen in the country by Early American Life magazine. His designs have appeared in Better Homes & Gardens. He lives in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The book starts out with some simple hints every scroller needs to know. The author wants his readers to think out of the box and make silhouettes, clocks, and other decorative pieces with the patterns given in the book.

There is a gallery of eleven pages, which has examples of the patterns and projects that can easily be put together. This book is geared to the beginning scroll sawers or someone who wants easy projects.

"Think outside the box" indeed. Plain line drawings for 59 projects but only 13 finished projects shown with 6 of those only simple silhouettes -- even the author couldn't come up with finished projects from these sketches. Huge disappointment.
