Learn why donkeys and mules are much more fascinating, useful, and fun than you probably think! Most people know donkeys and mules from what they see on television and in movies--in actions and old westerns, aiding gold miners, and more recently, that smart-alack sidekick of a certain lovable ogre in the Shrek movies. Donkeys have been prominent but always a bit mysterious. Know Your Donkeys changes all that. It describes both the species and the role donkeys and mules have played in human development, serving as pack animals, companions, agriculture laborers, and entertainment. The book puts a personal face on the breeds and enlightens the reader on how important they have been to humans throughout history. Animal expert and author Jack Byard details: *The 35 species of donkeys and mules *What breeds are endangered or threatened by extinction *How much water a donkey can drink in a day *The colorful history of donkeys and mules *Breeding habits *Mule racing *Eating habits of both types of animals *And hundreds of other fascinating facts about these unsung heroes of agriculture, mines, pack trails, logging operations, and many other industries.
