A Special Issue From Woodcarving Illustrated
Many readers requested help with burning dark, uniform backgrounds, so we have several patterns that explain the technique; among them is Sue Walter’s “Depicting Day and Night” (page 65).
In this issue:
- 17 New Projects Beginner to Advanced
- Simple Steps to Make Your Own Patterns
- Buy It & Burn It: Boxes Bracelets Birdhouses & More
- Buyer's Guide to Pyrographic Machines
- 5 Easy Techniques for Adding Color
To fulfill more reader requests,
we asked two artists to explain their methods for drafting patterns using original photos. I’ve used Doris Lindsey’s approach before—transferring the design via grid (page 52)—but had no experience with Danette Smith’s technique for using computer software (page 42). I fed a photo into the software, clicked buttons as instructed, and was pleasantly surprised to get a usable pattern in about 15 minutes. This stuff really works.
